Who we are

The Montessori Makers Assessment System is operated by Montessori Makers LLC. We provide adaptive assessment and progress-reporting tools to Montessori schools. Schools — not Montessori Makers — decide which students are enrolled, who may view results, and when records are removed. We process student information on each school's behalf.

What we collect

  • Student roster information entered by the school: name, age or date of birth, classroom, and a school-assigned student code.
  • Assessment records: responses to assessment questions, skill mastery estimates, progress levels, and growth over time.
  • Teacher observations the school chooses to record.
  • Adult account information for teachers, administrators, and parents: email address and display name.

We do not collect student email addresses, photographs, location data, or behavioral advertising identifiers. Student sign-in uses a school-assigned code and PIN, not an email account.

How we use it

Student information is used only to deliver the assessment, report progress to the child's school and family, and — when a school also uses the Montessori Makers Alignment Map (MMAP) — to share assessment results with that school's own MMAP records. We do not sell student data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties for their own purposes. De-identified, aggregated data may be used to improve question quality and scoring.

Who can see it

Access is scoped by school: teachers and administrators see only their own school's students. Parents see only their own child's reports. Report share links are unlisted, token-protected pages that a school can disable at any time. Row-level security is enforced in the database for every table containing student information.

FERPA and COPPA

For schools subject to FERPA, we operate as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest, under the school's direct control, and use education records only for the purposes described here. Because students sign in with school-assigned credentials at the school's direction, the school provides the consent contemplated by COPPA for children under 13; we collect no more information than is reasonably necessary for the assessment.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Data is stored with Supabase (hosted on AWS, United States region) and encrypted in transit and at rest. A school may request correction or deletion of any student record — or its entire account — at any time, and we will complete deletion within 30 days. When a student leaves a school, the school controls whether the record is retained or removed.
